The interim session lead by the Interagency Working Group on Tax Administration under the Foreign Investors Council (FIC) of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, chaired by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and EY

On December 3, our partner Azizbek Akhmadjonov and associate Iroda Tokhirova participated in the interim session lead by the Interagency Working Group on Tax Administration under the Foreign Investors Council (FIC) of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, chaired by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and EY.

As co-leads of the Working Group focused on land allocation procedures for investors, we developed a “nine-proposal” package, which includes a proposal on the taxation of land granted for permanent use to budgetary organizations and further leased to commercial and non-commercial entities. Since this proposal directly addresses land taxation, our participation in the Tax Working Group was an important opportunity to align with the session’s focus. The key challenge is how to structure land tax and rent to avoid “double taxation” and minimize distortions between different land rights.

The session brought together tax experts and foreign investors, fostering valuable dialogue and collaboration on this important issue. We are pleased to be part of the ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and improve the investment climate in Uzbekistan.
